Crocodile tears syndrome: botulinum toxin treatment under EMG guidance.
Crocodile tears syndrome is one of the rare complications of facial paralysis. There have been several reports of cases in which botulinum toxin was found to be useful in the treatment of crocodile tears syndrome. The adverse effects, due to the paralytic action of botulinum toxin, have been reported to involve the palpebral muscle, lateral rectus and superior rectus. Therefore, we considered t...

A 12-year-old girl presented with esotropia and face turn since birth. Ocular motility examination showed restricted abduction associated with down shoot and retraction on attempted abduction characteristic of inverse Duane's retraction syndrome. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the very few reported cases of congenital inverse Duane's retraction syndrome.
متن کاملCongenital aberrant tearing: a re-look.
PURPOSE Congenital aberrant tearing is characterized by tearing when eating ("crocodile tears"), lack of emotional tearing, or both. Most reported cases are associated with Duane syndrome. In our previous studies we observed aberrant tearing in individuals with thalidomide embryopathy and Möbius sequence. This report summarizes the literature on the subject and adds 3 new studies that give info...
متن کاملMotion perception tested with reversing grating in Duane's syndrome.
Many papers have reported that motion perception asymmetry (MPA) is replaced by motion perception symmetry (MPS) by the 4th to 5th month after birth, when stereopsis starts to occur in normal infants. Duane's syndrome is a congenital motor abnormality, it does, however, reportedly show good stereopsis. We confirmed the stereopsis in Duane's syndrome and checked the motion perception (MP) by usi...
